			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP in Poverty Alleviation and Development</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The Poverty Alleviation and Development (P&amp;D) Scholarship for the Master of Arts in Sustainable International Development will be awarded to an early– to mid-career development planner committed to poverty alleviation and community development within the region of Southern Africa.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Nationals of the following countries will be considered:</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe </strong><br />
The P&amp;D Scholar will join SID graduate students from over 40 countries in August 2010 for an interdisciplinary study of development and project management emphasizing poverty reduction, gender equality, human rights and biodiversity conservation. The P&amp;D Scholar will concentrate on theoretical and analytical skills in the year-in-residence at Brandeis University and then spend a second year in a supervised internship or field project.<br />
The P&amp;D Scholarship includes full tuition remission for the year-in-residence. The scholarship does NOT cover airfare, health insurance or any living expenses.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Nominations are encouraged from international and governmental development institutions and NGOs. Selfnominations are accepted and <strong>women are especially encouraged to apply.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong></strong>Nominators may mail, fax (781-736-2774), or email (HellerAdmissions@Brandeis.edu) a letter of nomination to the<br />

<p style="text-align: left;">Applications (to be submitted by the applicant) should include:</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">• Letter of Interest in Southern Africa Poverty Alleviation &amp; Development Scholarship<br />
• Completed Application Form<br />
• Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume<br />
• Detailed Statement of Purpose describing career objectives and work experience<br />
• Three original letters of recommendation (at least one professional and one academic) on official letterhead sent<br />
directly to the Admissions Office from the recommenders (These letters must be accompanied by a Brandeis<br />
University Recommendation Form)<br />
• Original or certified true copies of transcripts from all university-level studies, sent directly to the Admissions<br />
office from each university (Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official English<br />
translation)<br />
• Official TOEFL or IELTS score report is required for all international applicants.</p>

The Daniels Fund awards hundreds of scholarships each year to promising students across a four-state region. The Daniels Scholarship program is both exciting and challenging, and we encourage you to read on to see if a Daniels Scholarship might be right for you.</p>
<p>Who Can Apply?</p>
<p>Eligibility Criteria</p>
<p>To be eligible to apply for a Daniels Scholarship, students<br />
must satisfy all of the following:</p>
<p>n Be nominated by a designated Referral Agency (see<br />
www.danielsfund.org for a list).</p>
<p>n Be a current high school student with an expected<br />
graduation during the 2009-2010 academic school year<br />
from any high school in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah,<br />
or Wyoming.</p>
<p>n Be a current resident of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or<br />
Wyoming.</p>
<p>n At the time of application, be a U.S. citizen, a<br />
permanent resident of the U.S., or have refugee or<br />
asylum status in the U.S.</p>
<p>n Demonstrate financial need (see “What is Financial Need?”).</p>
<p>n Take the ACT by October 24, 2009 and achieve an exam<br />
composite score of 17 or higher, or take the SAT by<br />
October 10, 2009 and achieve a combined math and<br />
critical reading score of 830 or higher.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Social Justice is an integral part of Canisius College and our Jesuit heritage, which is grounded in the philosophy of “men and women for others.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was at the forefront of social justice in America and we honor his life and his  dedication to peace and equality through the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program.</p>
<p>Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply for the scholarship; applicants will be evaluated on their personal achievements, their involvement in community service and their commitment to the ideals of Dr. King. Scholarship recipients will be awarded $1,000 each, renewable for four years with a minimum 2.25 grade point average while at Canisius and participation in COPE office programming as described on the back of the application.</p>
<p><strong>The scholarship deadline is Friday, January 15, 2010</strong> – the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students are encouraged to apply for admission to Canisius by January 8, 2010. Only first-time students admitted to Canisius prior to the scholarship application deadline will be considered for the scholarship.</p>
